My normal Elder Futhark rune of the day was posted over on FateArc this afternoon. Shortly thereafter I did a tarot reading for myself. My tarot readings are normally a five card spread. The first card is the past. The second card is the present day. The third card is the future. The fourth card is what is standing in the way of the future. And the fifth card is the action to take to avoid or manifest the future.
Total transparency, I've done a lot of ancestry work for myself and have found that my predominant ethnicity is Germanic (on both sides of my family). However, there is Swiss, French, English, Scottish, and Irish in there too. My husband is Friesian, which, if you were unaware, is basically Northern Netherlands (aka Dutch). As a part of our faith journey, we have stepped away from the organized religions and delved deep into much of what Christianity stole from the other religions as it was being established.
This has led us both to many pagan, heathen, and Celtic practices. So with my rune of the day and my tarot cards, they are all from a very Norse coded place. My tarot deck is Yggdrasil by Haukur Halldorsson and G. Hauksdottir. So when I pull cards, they come from an unusual deck. It takes a little bit of understanding to work your way through them, but based on my understanding and work with the deck, I've finally begun to get a good feel for the way it works.
My past was right side up Dag, who stands for Clarity & Novelty. I took this to mean that I've gained great insight about my life through my past experiences and that I can and should use that clarity and novelty to propel me into my present. My present was right side up Vali, who stands for reconciliation. I took this to mean that there is reconciling I must do today to help move myself into the future. My future was upside down Darrod, who stands for suspense behind the mask. Because it was upside down, I take it that the future promises that I will be filled with living authentically into who I am and what I can do. What stands in my way is upside down Goi, the symbol of transformation. Because it is upside down, I can reason that I'm lacking transformation. I've more work to do on myself to transform into who I'm meant to be. And the action I must take was upside down Naglfar, that stands for the ship of conflict. With it being upside down, it means that I must stop avoiding conflict. To have the future of living authentically into who I am and what I can do, I must meet conflict head on and be prepared to fight for myself.
